WHY WAS THIS WEB SITE CREATED ?

The author of this site decided to create a web-based Heurigen database as part of a self taught course on interfacing web pages with server-side databases (computer-speak for he did not know anything about the technology so he decided to find out).

The site was also created to bring order to the chaotic assortment of web-based information about Austrian Heurigen. The author wanted to locate and visit as many Heurigen as he could during his brief stay in Austria. A lot of information was available at various web sites but it was tedious and time consuming to visit all those sites. The solution - bring all information together into one site - the "Heurigen Database on the Web".

The objectives of this web site are to provide:

• an easy-to-use method for locating Heurigen in cities throughout Austria,
  
• essential information about Heurigen (such as address, telephone, hours of operation, services and links to Heurigen web sites that exist),
  
• an easy-to-use method to enter information about Heurigen into the database, and
  
• an easy-to-use method for anyone who has visited one of the Heurigen listed in the database to rate the Heuriger

Please note: This is not a commercial site. It does not promote any specific Heurigen. It is strictly a volunteer effort on the part of the author to provide a service to the people of Austria and to visitors to Austria.
